Wearing a Scarf With a V Neck Dress
Trend Alert!! These square handkerchief style scarves are back. If you are thinking flight attendant, yep that's them. A smaller style square scarf worn tied around your neck. For me, I love the that I can add a little style and colour to lots of looks. Also, it hides my not so young neck. I've put together a few tips on how to wear the latest scarf trend. My favourite way to wear them is with a white button-down shirt, pair off jeans and a blazer, which is a very preppy look.
You can add it to a simple little black dress for the office or a round neck sweater for the weekend. Effortless style has just become so easy. Also, we have given you a couple of extra ways to wear these scarves and they are not tied around your neck.
8 ways you can wear your neck scarf
All these ways are using a square shaped scarf.
The V-Neck Back Tie
The first way is one that you can wear all the time because it's so easy. It's perfect for adding a pop of colour with v-neck tees and other open neck tops and blazers. Also, it will give you some extra warmth around the neck. Think cravat or bandana style.
- Fold the square in half so it's a triangle
- Now, tie the scarf around your neck with the v at the front
- You may need to tweak it a bit until it looks right and you're done!
The Small Side Knot
This scarf tie is perfect for higher necklines, though it can also be worn with open or lower necklines. To achieve this tie you will need a square scarf.
- Fold the scarf corner to corner so it's a small triangle if you have a larger sized square scarf fold in half again so that the point of the triangle is touching the straight edge
- Now continue to fold the scarf on itself until you have a narrow rectangle
- At this point, all you need to do is wrap the rectangle around your neck front to back, then to the front and tie it off to one side or in the front, again it is all in the tweaking
You can also put the knot the front with this tie.
The Large Side Knot
This way is an easy and versatile way to tie your scarf, it compliments many outfits and works with larger scarves as well. The emphasis here is on a soft and flowy look. This tie is almost identical to the 'V neck back tie' except for one small difference outlined below.
- Follow steps 1-2 of the 'V-neck back tie'
- But tie the knot closer to the neck
- Lastly, just bring the tie the front side and you're good to go!
The Long Tie
I debated including this tie because it's almost too easy! That said though, it's also one of the reasons I love it so much. This tie looks amazing with crew neck sweaters and turtlenecks alike but can also be worn over tank tops in the summer because it hangs away from the neck. To achieve this, grab either a medium or large square scarf and follow these steps.
- Follow steps 1-2 of the 'Side Knot'
- When you have a long rectangle simply drape it around your neck so that both points are facing front
- Finally, tie together as close to your neck as you like and voilĂ !
The Choker
The choker is another way you can tie your square scarf, you are not showing the tie at the front only a neat band across the front of your neck.
- Fold and roll the scarf so it is narrow, bring it around to the back
- Tie in a small knot at the back of your neck for a choker-esque look.
You can still accessorise with your scarf but stick to fine jewellery.
Other ways to wear your scarf
Tie it to your bag
Having it on hand, tied to your bag, if you feel a chill in the air you can take it off your bag and pop it around your neck for a little-added warmth.
Wear your scarf as a hair tie
Also as a headband
Wear as a wrist cuff
So no matter what the season you can add a little colour and style with these smaller square scarves.
